Car insurance

That's not my car above but I wish it was! The truth is that while I could afford the car, the insurance would likely be out of sight! Last time I shopped for insurance, I used one of those online thinga ma jiggys to get quotes. It worked pretty good to be honest except for one little problem; nobody ended up beating my current car insurance company's rates! They came pretty close though. It was pretty cool though because I ended up getting multiple quotes off one request. Can't beat that.

The best car insurance tips I can give you are these: First, don't be afraid to put in the research. See how companies are rated and whatnot. Opinions.com often has good reviews too on big companies in many different industries.

Second, only buy the amount of car insurance you need. Too many people get talked into buying a lot more liability than they need. Chances are you're not going to get in a big crash anyways, and god forbid you do, the other person can only sue you for so much anyways. However, if you have a ton of equity in your home (who has that these days?) you may want to up the liability just in case they don't come after that.

Third, if the car is old, just get liability. It won't be worth it to have collision on a car that is worth only a $1000 or $2000. Save the money.  There's better investments than car insurance for an old car.

Fourth, if possible, get car rental option in the car insurance plan you choose. If you lose your car for a week or two because of a crash, it's a pain in the butt to get around. The car rental thing let's you get a rental, like $20 a day or something. Better than nothing and the insurance company pays for it. I've used it multiple times now. Was WAY worth it. I would've had to pay over $200 a week for a car. I believe my insurance company only charged me like $10 every six months for the option.l

Lastly, if you can, always approach a company that you already have insurance with. They will often beat other company's prices for car insurance if you have more than one policy with them. Like homeowners, renters, life, etc. That has worked out well for me over the years.

Well good luck with your car insurance search. Get lots of quotes and don't be so quick to sign up. Sometimes you can save $500 or more a year with just a little patience and effort.
